Rules and Regs at the Nightingale, Brighton - 2012

Public performances: Thursday and Friday 28 - 29 June, 7:30pm - £7 (£5 concs.)

Participating Artists:

The Rules:

R&R sponsored the writer Martine Rouleau to be embedded in the Nightingale residency through a-n Magazine's Interface programme. She produced four texts:

(Texts available to download here).

On 14 June, past R&R artist Bill Aitchison presented his new work Indifference at the Nightingale, followed by a talk with Bill and the current R&R artists on international collaborations, their R&R experiences and how they develop new work.

Participating artists developed new work from 4/6 - 27/6. After the artists have agreed to participate, rules were devised in response to their practices and announced at the beginning of the development period - Artists did not know the rules before the programme began. All artists worked to the same set of rules and created new work in response to these rules.

Rules and Regs is a development opportunity for making new work with the primary goal to explore artistic practice. During the development period the artists had support from curator (and Nighitngale Director) Steven Brett and R&R Director Seth Kriebel.

This project was a co-production of the Nightingale (Brighton), Brut (Vienna), ST Spot (Yokohama) and Rules and Regs. It was funded by the production partners, Arts Council England and the Austrian Cultural Forum, London.
