"I remembered an old picture of my father and his father walking down the promenade at Bridlington. In the picture my Dad is about eighteen, looking smart, handsome. I wanted to get inside that picture somehow, to live in a different time. Blackpool became a dream of Bridlington, Scheveningen, and Vredenburg, other coastlines edging other countries. In the performance I borrowed some text from Jacques Brel, Roscoe Holcombe, Carl Sandburg, Garrison Keillor, and Terence Malick, and an antique accordion from my landlady, Jean." -Simon Bowes |
