First Classic of the Season
"I remembered an old picture of my father and his father walking down the promenade at Bridlington. In the picture my Dad is about eighteen, looking smart, handsome. I wanted to get inside that picture somehow, to live in a different time. Blackpool became a dream of Bridlington, Scheveningen, and Vredenburg, other coastlines edging other countries. In the performance I borrowed some text from Jacques Brel, Roscoe Holcombe, Carl Sandburg, Garrison Keillor, and Terence Malick, and an antique accordion from my landlady, Jean."
